Nigh Upon the End December 31st, 2005

Phil Martin

So, I have had a few interesting days. Andrew and I have been staying up till 4030 most days watching movies. He on one couch, myself on another, with the DVD’s passing between. I have seen “What Dreams May Come”, “Swing Kids”, “Cheaper by the Dozen”, “Alien VS Predator”, and “Rundown”. Also seen during other hours are “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” and “War of the Worlds”. All pretty decent movies. I really liked “Swing Kids” and “Alien VS Predator”.

So enough about movies.

Zach left early Tuesday bound for Dallas and Brigette. Boy, was he excited. Monday he was practically vibrating with excitement.

Went bowling again on Tuesday and did better, though I am still under 100. Unfortunately, back at WOLBI I may not have a chance to bowl again for some time, so I may again be cursed with little practice.

We tried to go see Narnia yesterday, but the showing was sold out! I have never seen a movie that has been out for several weeks be sold out at 1330 on a Thursday, but then, truth is stranger than fiction. So we will try again on Saturday sometime.

Also, my ride back to school is uncertain. Word on the street is that she is trying to secure her parents permission to drive back to school. Sigh, curses upon stubborn over-protective parents. In the meantime, the Ferris’ may be able to drive me to a halfway point where my brother could pick me up. At any rate, I may be doomed to return to the Christian Concentration Camp. Such is my fate it seems.

Also we have picked up more college students from Messiah, Jordan and Abby, and Merriam, all friends of Andrew and grads from UKA. So hangin wit dem is cool.

all for now

peace yall

Honesty and Reality December 27th, 2005

Phil Martin

It has come up several times, from my parents and others about the content of what I post here. I do not mean to be anything but what appears in my posts. I seek only to present my reality as I see it when I post. Thus I do not wish to be offensive, morbid, or anything else. What you read is what you get, and often a reflection of what I am feeling.

I am a StormRider and trust God always, in spite of myself and my feelings. This is fact and absolute, in as much as my faith is based in the ABSOLUTE GOD ALMIGHTY. Nothing else matters.

So take heart, I am often not long as despressed as I might seem. (or elated, as far as that goes)

I Walk a Lonely Road December 27th, 2005

Phil Martin

Well, it is a long road back to Word of Life, and I will walk the dark road as best I can. I have one week left to be here in Lancaster with some of the people that mean the most to me.

My mother is in Cairns with eye troubles, it is possible that she may never recover sight in one eye, which was damaged by a burst blood vessel, and it is also possible that she recovers full sight. That matter is now in the Lord’s hands.

I have had an amazing week. Hung out, went shopping, played Settlers, watched movies, did Christmas on Christmas Eve, after church and traditional spaghetti. Got two books, a t-shirt, gift card to Border’s for more books, and an iTunes gift card. Christmas morning I was presented with a stocking from my mom, which she had bought and filled when she was here in the States for my grandfather’s funeral. That was awesome and unlookedfor.

My heart is heavy, and I don’t know why, exactly. I really do not want to go back to Word of Life. The only thing drawing me is the lore of the Bible that I will learn, and the dim, almost forgotten feeling that God wants me there. I do not know where or what the future holds, the road is under shadow, and all I can see is the next step.

I must trust God, and this struggle is hard.

Pray for me if you pray

I do not long wish to walk enshrouded in shadow and darkness, or alone as now I walk

no milk :-( December 21st, 2005

Phil Martin

Just got a new hard drive for my computer. The internal has been broken since the middle of summer, and I have been running off of an external hard drive ever since. I went with Wayne to buy a new one, and worked at putting it into my iBook. Well, that all worked except for the part when the computer recognizes it. Mine wouldn’t, but neither did his or Andrew’s. So we figured it was bad, and took it back for an exchange. Our guess must have been correct cause the new one worked perfectly. Whohoo!

On the downside, there is no milk for breakfast, so I am eating dry Reese’s Puffs cereal. Maybe Mom will wake up soon and go to the store for some milk.

Anyhoo, Christmas is coming!

And pray for my mother, she is experiancing eye troubles similar to what Miss Mathieson had, and also my brother is leaving PNG bound for Cincinnati, so pray for his travels.

Peace

the StormRider

in Lancaster December 18th, 2005

Phil Martin

Hey, What Up?

I am at the Ferris apt in Lancaster, PA. Have been since monday. Been AMAZING to be away from WOLBI and its unnecessary rules and restrictions. Got to see Rachel Busenitz on Tuesday (and met Zach’s older bro Andrew). Hung out wit her the whole day, talked and walked around. Was really neat. Have just hung out the next several days.

Then Zach surprised us by coming home early on Friday night. Haha, we have been having snowball fights ever since.

And we went shopping today after picking up Andrew, with more snowball fights.
Will be crazy these days until Christmas.

I wouldn’t trade it for nuthin

Peace yall, hope you is having as much fun or close to it.

a Life, in a week December 5th, 2005

Phil Martin

Since I have last updated, I have broken into my brother’s room, worked mad hours, purchased a bus ticket, watched two seasons of a TV show, and not done much else of consequence.

Let’s start at the top. I broke into my brother’s room, in which I have been staying while working here at the WOL Inn (and while he has been away in UKA). So anyway, when you lock your keys in the room, you have to be creative about reentry. I tried picking the lock with my knife, but that did not work, as the blade would penetrate far enough into the lock. I would have tried a smaller blade, but my smaller knife was attached to the key ring, and thus, not available to me.

So I did the next best thing, looked for a window to climb through. The room has four windows, but only one is accessible without a ladder. His room is on the second story of a two story building, but there happens to be a flight of steps below the one window. By standing on the railing of the steps I was able to cut through the plastic covering on the window (to protect from the cold), and then was able to open the window, which was fortunately unlocked.

So as I am half through the window, at night, hanging over nothing but about 14 feet of thin air I am thinking, “I sure hope no one comes by, how can I explain that I am not breaking in?”

So, anyway, I made it though the window without falling, and into the room, and thus ended that episode. Fortunately, I always make sure I leave a window unlocked in case I forget my keys.

Most of you haven’t seen it, but there was a TV show on from 95-99 called the “Pretender” and the basic premise was a supersmart guy was kidnapped as a kid, taught to be this pretender who could become anyone, a doctor, lawyer, hitman, anything, and they used him to “simulate” things that they later did, like assassinations, government overthrow, murder and so on. One day this Pretender, Jarod, ran away, and began trying to undo his wrongs. Thus the TV show. Every episode Jarod is pretending to be someone else in the effort to make right bad situations. “Are you a doctor?” “I am today”

So Nate and I bought seasons 1&2 on DVD, and I have been rewatching them. My dad and brothers and I all watched them, but I don’t remember them much anymore, so it has been cool rewatching these episodes. A well written, edge-of-your-seat intelligent TV show. The last factor is most lacking in TV shows today, I feel.

Between working and watching TV shows, I have been pretty busy. I woke up this morning to find more snow on the ground, and it is currently snowing. It had warmed up a bit, and the previous snow from Thanksgiving had melted, but now there is more back.

And, lastly, I have purchased a bus ticket for the 12th, and will be on my way to the Ferris’ in a week for the rest of my break (until Jan 2). I can’t wait!

So peace, that’s a little of my life.
