Update August 23rd, 2005

Phil Martin

Greetings.

I apologize to all of you who actually read this thing, because I haven’t updated in a while.

To sum up, I came back from PNG (Yes, those of you who read know this.) I worked at Word of Life Ranch after seeing Joe get married. (I think I mentioned this.)

And now, my computer crashed again (again the harddrive, which means more stuff unrecoverable, I swear, I am going to back up everyday when I get a new hardrive in my laptop.) (NEW INFORMATION) To circumvent the ailing hard drive in my laptop, I purchased an 80 GB FireWire External harddrive, so at least I can use my computer, and am looking for a replacement internal hardrive. Hopefully I can find one for cheap enough that will still last and not fail for me. The search continues…

So I am working at the Word of Life Inn now for Summer Work Program which runs during the four or so weeks between now and classes at the Word of Life Bible Institute. This week I will be working wait staff, which means I get to wait on tables (“Yes, Phil, we know…”).

I cannot seem to get out of Nate’s foosteps. Though I am most like Joe, I seem to follow Nate wherever he goeth. So far I have followed him to Triple R Ranch, Bayside Library, Word of Life Ranch, and now the Inn as wait staff, and soon to the Bible Institute. Oh well. At least, if you are going to follow a man, one should follow a great man, or at least one worth following.

I, too, am following Nate as a photographer, as during his graduation yesterday yours truly got to take pictures (with Nate’s nice Digital Rebel) and he said I actually took some nice pictures.

Other than that, I am not doing too much, just hanging out. I am kinda exhausted from the summer at the Ranch, and was thrown into working here at the Inn, but through God’s grace and strength, I am sure that I will survive. (Pray for me anyway, I could use it.)

I saw, before coming to Word of Life country, Batman Begins and Star Wars Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith.

First, Batman Begins was amazing. Forget those sick, lamo Batman flops of the 90′s. In the Zed’s, Batman is back, and is way cooler, and so more believable. Half the movie is spent with Bruce Wayne and who this guy is. We explore his anger, self-hatred, and journey to vigilante status. We learn that his equipment is military prototype stuff, and such is less gadgety and more real world. Excellent movie.

Second, Revenge of the Sith is dark. Way better than the limping Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, though the intimate dialouge still could have used some help. The best factors for me was that both Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman no longer look like teenagers; the depth and character study of Anakin, and the wrap-up/tie-in with the original trilogy. In this last Star Wars film, Anakin Skywalker followes his rage and hurt down the last of the slippery slope towards the dark side. Plagued by doubts and haunted by the fact that he does not have enough power to fully protect Padme, Anakin listens to Chancellor Palpatine as he glamourizies the Dark Side. At a critical moment, Anakin fully betrays the Jedi he has distrusted for six years, and becomes Darth Vader. In the only PG 13 Star Wars, Anakin helps destroy every last Jedi Knight (including, chillingly, the younglings). So good was this movie is that I almost forgot that Anakin was going to turn to the Dark Side, and believed for a brief moment that he would bring Palpatine to justice. Alas, history cannot be changed and the stage was set for A New Hope. Obi-Wan Kenobi hides the infants Luke and Leia, and Palpatine institutes the First Galactic Empire. “So this is how Republic dies.” – Senator Padme Amidala. I thought this movie was at the same level as Empire and Jedi, it was that good. Some (like Joe) disagree with me, but I am a Star Wars hard core fan, so I don’t care. (The soundtrack is one of the best, too. Unlike Lucas, I think John Williams has steadily gotten better.)

My life goes on, and so much that I wish I could share.

I miss everyone, especially my parents, my amazing sister, and all my bratas and susas bilong PNG bilong mi.

Set Course for the Sunrise, guys,

“I will see you again. But not yet. Not Yet.” and though this causes me such pain, I must feel my heart bleed and remember “The good times gone, and that stupid fun, all that stuff we’ve done.”

Peace.

the StormRider (at this point, I do not feel very indefatigueable.)
