A New Old Friend March 27th, 2008

Phil Martin

Hello Everyone.

I am just thanking God for His providence and provision. Lately, due to a generous donation to me, I was able to replace my now definitely dead Apple iBook G4 with a fully alive and surprisingly functional iBook G3 from Ebay, and for only $300!!

This was to answer my need/want of a laptop to take to Lithuania in the Fall when I study abroad, and for a digital note taking device here. Also, it is such a big help for being able to be online, or be wherever I want to be to enjoy the benefit of a computer (i.e. not tied to a computer lab).

The tally so far today is

1. I took notes for my Communications class (on google documents (http://docs.google.com) which is a very cool online word processor)
2. I downloaded some songs via iTunes for one of my workstudy profs, for a project of his exploring the Vietnam War

3. I am typing this entry from Boyer fourth floor, which has no lounge, but is one of my favorite places to hang out, and where I work

and now, actually, I have to pull Hannah away from work so that we can go eat dinner. Yummy. (I hope, you never know!)

So there it is, God be praised!

The Importance of Many Things March 25th, 2008

Phil Martin

Well, with Spring Break rapidly coming to a close, it is time to get back into the swing of school. Classes start tomorrow, and then its an all out race to mid-May and the end of Spring Semester.

All in all I had a great break and an awesome time video editing. I relaxed plenty and caught up on sleep!! Whohoo!

Upon returning to my room, I rearranged and cleaned everything up. Looks pretty spiffy, if I do say so myself. Seems I have gotten my rearranging gene from my father, and every so often simply must shift things up. I mean, really, why not? Besides, I get bored with things always staying the same, and like to get a new take on stuff.

Furthermore, I would like to throw this thought out into cyberspace for consideration: Why do we not love as radically like Jesus? Why do we feel the need to judge others? I know I do not do the first, and far too often do the second, but why is this the case? Am I simply too selfish, and to self-centred?

God, help me to love as you love, and to seek the good in everyone else, realizing that they are just as messed up as I am, and You love them just as much as me.

This is of supreme importance: to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God. It is about time we realized just how radical Christ is, and get out of our conservative cages and rock the world as He did, starting with love.

~Peace.

A Hitch March 24th, 2008

Phil Martin

Given the fact that my video is a large file, and I don’t want to lose quality or make it extremely slow, I am considering alternative methods and options for posting it online. Thank you for your patience.

Piratica Ultima – An Explanation March 23rd, 2008

Phil Martin

In France, the year 1789, the prison Bastille was stormed, sparking the French Revolution. This, in turn, sparked a creative revolution, and turned the artistic world’s tables for good. Neoclassicalism was a thing of the past, and Romanticism would forevermore hold sway over popular culture. Eventually, though, the Revolution was taken too far, and many heads were taken as well.

Imagine, however, a different scenario. Romanticism came first, and Neoclassicalism, on the rise, is methodically stamping out Romantics wherever they be. Hanging, not beheading, is the new regime’s method of death. The Revolution is a fight for freedom. And the Romantics? They are pirates.

Now you have the world of Pirates of the Caribbean, and an understanding of my latest video editing project: Piratica Ultima: A Hero Comes Home….

**coming soon!**

A Hero Comes Home March 23rd, 2008

Phil Martin

Out of the mist of history
He’ll come again
Sailing on ships across the sea
To a wounded Nation

Signs of a savoir
Like fire on the water
It’s what we prayed for
One of our own

Just wait
Though while he may roam
Always
A hero comes home
He goes where no one has gone
But always
A hero comes home

Deep in the heart of darkness sparks
A dream of lies
Surrounded by hopelessness
He finds the will to fight

Theres no surrender
Always remember
It doesn’t end here
We’re not alone

Just wait
Though while he may roam
Always
A hero comes home
He goes where no one has gone
But always
A hero comes home

And he will come back on the crimson tide
Dead or alive
And even though we know the bridge has burned
He will return
He will return

Just wait
Though while he may roam
Always
A hero comes home
He knows of places unknown
Always
A hero comes home

Someday they’ll carve in stone
“The hero comes home”

He goes and comes back alone
But always
A hero comes home

Just wait
Though while he may roam
Always
A hero comes home

Hoist the Colours March 23rd, 2008

Phil Martin

Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho,
thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.

The king and his men
stole the queen from her bed
and bound her in her Bones.
The seas be ours
and by the powers
where we will we’ll roam.

Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.

Some men have died
and some are alive
and others sail on the sea
– with the keys to the cage…
and the Devil to pay
we lay to Fiddler’s Green!

The bell has been raised
from it’s watery grave…
Do you hear it’s sepulchral tone?
We are a call to all,
pay head the squall
and turn your sail toward home!

Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.

Well, me mateys, the time has finally arrived. The edit, barring any horribly overlooked problems, is finally finished! My next post will announce its debut online, and this will also be my internet video debut, as never before has a work of mine like this been put online.

Till then….

Not All Treasure Is Silver and Gold, Mate! March 23rd, 2008

Phil Martin

1932:48 22 March 2008

After a nap, I found my piece of amazing. I am now re-editing in earnest, and should be done tonight. The piece of treasure I found was the song “A Hero Comes Home” from the Beowulf soundtrack. Adds just the touch of the epic, the powerful, and the emotion that I needed.

I am also learning again the fundamental rule of editing: cut, cut, cut. Once you have found a piece of footage that you absolutely love, you must divorce yourself from it, and most likely cut it. Only the best scenes survive, and you must be brutal when editing, and this leaves you with stunning footage.

Ok, back to chopping.

Wind in the Sails March 23rd, 2008

As of 1900 yesterday, I had completed an edit of my Pirates movie. It has all the elements I wanted, and holds together rather well, but after several look throughs, I am not totally happy with it. It lacks something that would make it amazing. So I need to give it that, and may have to rework about half of it.

Upon finishing totally, I will post it on Facebook and possibly youtube, when I do, I will post links here.

Thanks for reading.
