Well, am trying to, anyway.
I don’t like the fact that Obama apparently voted against banning infanticide, and that he is an all around scoundrel, evidently…but I must remember that nothing the Senator does gives me the right to hate, or even dislike him. I am called by God to…LOVE him. Ouch. Not easy. Especially since he represents so much that I stand against…but it isn’t like God gave options on who, or when, to love. He just said to do it.
With all the political stuff that is flying around these days and as we get closer to November and the elections, it is very easy to lose sight of who God is, and what we Christians are ultimately still on earth to do.
Heck, even in the normal flow of life, it is easy to get focused on job, family, and social things, and totally lose track of the hurt in the world, of the people who need to see Jesus but only have you to look at. What are they seeing as the leaves fall every fourth year in America? A bunch of screaming politically minded people, some of whom claim to follow God but chamealeonize into donkeys and elephants and not Jesus. That is tragic.
I am not against being political, but I am against that trumping being Christ-like. Or even plain old nice.
So, here’s to elections…get out and love, and while you are out, vote. It isn’t easy, but it is so very important.
Let people see Jesus, and not your political party.
