the Dark Knight and other Stories August 4th, 2008

“You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” – Harvey Dent

I believe in Harvey Dent…and in the Nolan brothers’ vision of Batman. Batman Begins was awesome, showing us Bruce Wayne and his dark alter ego as we had never seen him before: realistic, and larger than life. Now the second installment of the Gotham City protector, Dark Knight is sheer, unadulterated brilliance. I watched it first online (illegal, I know) and got the “oh, wow!” out of my system. Then, I watched it in the theater and was able to catch more of the minutiae. More, but not all. I will have to watch it many many more times to catch and understand all of what was going on. So much of what is said and done in that film happens on so many different levels. Dark Knight is a masterpiece of literature and cinema. If you haven’t seen it, do so.

I would like to nominate Dark Knight for Best Picture, Heath Ledger for Best Supporting Actor, Hans Zimmer/James Newton Howard for Best Music (Score), and Christopher and Jonathan Nolan for Best Writing (Original Screenplay).

In other news, I am at my Aunt Jane’s house. The weekend I hung out with Nate over at Triple R Ranch, and yesterday I was able to visit my friend Darryl Griebel who is a deputy sheriff. We started the evening at Texas Roadhouse, which, as always, has amazing food. After that, Aunt Jane took me to a go-kart place where my cousin works, and she graciously paid for me to race. Having never done that before, it was lots of fun. (Thanks, Aunt Jane).

Soon, we will head out and do fun stuff. Can’t wait…tell you about it later.

Peace.
